Round 7 vs DRW: Board 2

King and Eugene played a great game! The game was played at a high level from both sides. Towards the end I assume time pressure must have become a relevant factor and also a certain desperation of white to force a win. White's attempt back fired and King took home a well deserved point.

The game is of interest because both sides made some positional mistakes in the opening, white more than black. Mistakeslike this are easily avoided if you are familiar with some basic positional elements, i.e. no lengthy calculations are needed to avoid them just familiarity with principles.
Another feature of the game is King's plan to open a diagonal in the center to get more play for his pieces. The plan is easily visible in the early stage and was well executed. The plan was also very hard to refute and white did not succeed in stopping it. One might argue this was not the best plan but that misses the point. The plan is solid and it helps a great deal to have plan like this in the middle game. It practically works like a guiding light as you try to make your way through the middle game.
The analysis of the game deserves a little more time than I can down load in one video. So once again its a two parter.
